Children's classes

In July of 2008 we started offering classes for children of six to twelve years of age again. Interested parents are welcome to come and observe the current classes, call our dojo during practice hours or to leave a message after hours, or email our instructors. See the schedule if interested. Note that a liability waiver must be signed by both parents to enable a child to practice.

Overview for Parents

Aikido is a Japanese martial art which is non-aggressive and non-competitive. The self defense techniques present ways to overcome an attacker without causing anyone serious injury. Children will be shown how to blend (join energy) with an attacker rather than resisting, while remaining in control of the situation.
Master Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido, said Aikido should never become competitive. He opposed contests and said that for every winner, there is a loser. Both can harm the human spirit.
Students should learn the art of Aikido for self-discipline, self-confidence, fitness, and a calm spirit, as well as respect for others.
